Let's go to the point: he is narcissistic, extravagant, arrogant, smug and a bore! He wants to appear to be successful and even happy, but nobody is fooled by his false sense of freedom, because it is just hauled out for the showcase. Plus he keeps her true emotions up on a shelf along with his heart...

There will be no more holding out, keeping up the act or comparing apples with oranges to justify insupportable positions! So this means possibilities only for better offers to break through the back and forth.

It didn't have to come to this! 
Too many elusive banners of misapplied meaning bearing unbearable justifications; not taking anything for granted, yet ignoring the most important aspects - it was almost inevitable that the underworld would be released and eliminate it. Then, invading revelations, failure to assimilate truth, followed by fear, shock, rubber-neck desperation... And, oh, private gloating. All added to gestures in vain to godly monsters in search for a sign of divine intervention: ....a miracle in exchange for self-inflicted sacrifice. 
Now, singled-out in the name of some cause du jour leaving angry grief in the wake of its aftermath. 
But here we are back from the brink - rebels on behalf of the crusade, yet afraid to plumb the unfathomable depths to make peace or save ourselves! 
With history certain to make a surprise return, this memory could revisit old grounds to provide means for reprieve and enact a new deal for reclaiming delicate balance.

He is no stranger to controversy or humiliation; it is what drove him above and beyond the "box" in the first place! So it is naïve to think he does not still have a private agenda to uphold or overcome. In fact, the need for public validation of his personal wounds helped him stay loyal and focused on the crusade.
His rules need to be respected. His pride and what it cost him to attain it must be appreciated when trying to take the next step. Strategize thoughtfully towards the privilege, because he is now "them" and he holds the status quo jurisdiction and authority over entry into his Empire.

The Empress

An Empress is not a person to be envied. She has enormous responsibilities to deal with, if she's doing her job well. Circumstances did not put her in that powerful position, so she can make a mess of her actions. Yet she is also a human being, for goodness sake!
